Things to Like about San Francisco #6

Driving down Portola into Noe Valley, the view from Clipper Street is amazing: the bay and downtown spread before you, the Bay Bridge. You can't see what's hidden by Twin Peaks behind you: the Golden Gate bridge and the Presidio. But the view from Clipper is about 230 degrees of San Francisco. It's even prettier at night with all the lights on.

This is one of two places I've lived where a simple drive to the grocery store, or to pick up a kid, or to the dentist can make me gasp at the beauty. The other was upland New Hampshire/Vermont.

Yup. Of course, dazzling urbanite that I am, what I like most is the sight of the city spread before me. It's not that I'm against natural beauty, mind. I just love cities so.

Hills are very good for cities; they allow the city to spread out below you like a jewelled carpet.

Note that I live in the burbs, so many of the views I'm admiring actually go down rows of bungalows to the Bay.
