small Woo Hoo
After (mumble) years, I finished a short story and submitted it to The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Today I got a contract and check. Woo hoo!
Life, writing, children, pedestrians, books, and the passive resistance of inanimate objects.

Most of your published stories have appeared in F&SF, haven't they?
How long since the last one? And tell us a bit about the present one, why don't you?
(And congratulations.)
I haven't written a whole lot of short stuff in the past few years--the last story in F&SF I had was (I think), "Abelard's Kiss," about a woman with a bioengineered sex toy that looks and feels like a large lip...
This one is called "Boon". It's about a single mother living in Alphabet City in New York City--at a point after there has been some schism in Faerie that has sent half of elfland down from the Catskills and into the city. She finds herself in the middle of a class skirmish of sorts.
One of the odd things I realized when I finished it was that it is one of my stories--and there are a couple of them--about people creating a family of sorts. This leaves me open to any number of facile psychological analyses, I fear.
Well, yowsas there. And w00ts, even.

Right on!

Congratulations!
