We learned this yesterday at Whole Foods, where we had gone for cheese. If you asked in the Bulk Foods department, you were given one large chocolate covered dried cherry; very nice (particularly as it was free) but I have to say that in my book the canonical dried cherry is a cordial. The best I know of come from Catherine's Chocolates in Great Barrington, Massachusetts: huge cherries surrounded by cordial and either milk or dark chocolate (I'm a dark chocolate girl myself; SG favors milk) with the stem still in. Bliss.
I'm the author of a bunch of books, including five Regency romances, a Marvel Comics superhero novel, The Stone War, a dark urban fantasy in which I blew up my home town, and Point of Honour and Petty Treason, the first two books in the adventures of Sarah Tolerance, Fallen Woman and Private Eye. I've also published a double-handful of SF and fantasy stories.

That makes me feel like the two I ate yesterday were a patriotic gesture or something.
It's very public spirited of you.
